Shield type 2 escudos, Philip V (actually a posthumous issue of Charles II struck during the reign of Philip V), Santa Fe de Bogotá mint, assayer Buenaventura de Arce (not visible as is typical of this issue), circa 1713.  Observe:  Crowned coat of arms of a style unique to 1713 issues.  Reverse: Jerusalem cross die matched to coin 11.01768 of the Florida State collection. This is an uncirculated coin with original mint luster and NGC graded Mint State 62, but misidentified by NGC as a Charles II issue.  The dull appearance in the images is due to the reflection caused by photographing the coin through the hard plastic NGC case.  Supplied with a New World Treasures photo type Certificate of Authenticity and a booklet "Shipwrecks and Their Coins: Volume 3 - 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet" that provides details about the fleet and its coins.

Shield type 2 escudos, Bogotá Columbia, Philip IV, assayer A, date (163)6.  Beautifully struck full cross with the bottom of the 6 of the date (163)6 visible, positively attributing the coin to assayer A.  The mintmark NR for "Nuevo Reino de Granada," the Spanish Colonial region that included the city of Bogotá, is found to the left of the shield along with the assayer mark A for "Anuncibay."  Since the shield is offset to the left on this coin, both marks were struck off the planchet and are thus missing.  This coin is one of many high grade Bogotá 2 escudos recovered from the "Mesuno Hoard" in 1935.  El Mesuno, a location on the Magadalena River in Columbia, was the site of the 1636 sinking of a small vessel carrying gold to the port of Cartagena.  This is a beautiful New World coin in almost uncirculated condition.  Supplied with a New World Treasures photo type certificate of authenticity.
